Overview

Hi, I’m Beck, an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist with a genuine passion for food and the way it connects people, families and cultures. I came to dietetics via a slightly unconventional path. I first studied Anthropology—the study of cultures (think Indiana Jones, but with far fewer snakes)—where I developed a strong interest in food systems, including agriculture, environment, and the social and cultural influences that shape how and why we eat. Alongside this, I worked in the hospitality industry, managing high-end restaurants and immersing myself in diverse and creative food experiences. Over time, and particularly as I started my own family, my interest evolved into a deeper appreciation of how food nourishes the body, supports health, and plays a vital role across the lifespan. I was also inspired by my family—my mother, an older adult nurse, and my father, a plant geneticist—both of whom dedicated their careers to improving health and nutrition in different ways. Bringing together these influences felt like a natural progression, leading me to pursue a career in dietetics where I could combine science, culture and care in my work with clients. I believe food is never just food—it carries meaning, culture, identity and connection. While English may be the primary language in my home (with a nod to my husband’s Spanish heritage—hola!), I often say I’m fluent in food. With a background in food anthropology and restaurant management, I bring a deep appreciation for cuisines from across the globe and the unique role they play in people’s lives. I value how food traditions, preferences and experiences shape each person’s relationship with eating—and I aim to honour that in the way I work. My clinical experience has been primarily within general practice (GP) clinics, where I have supported clients across a broad range of presentations, including weight concerns, disordered eating, eating disorders, and malnutrition. I have a particular interest in diabetes management (Type 1 and Type 2), as well as women’s health, including PCOS, insulin resistance, and gestational diabetes, and I am passionate about providing practical, individualised support in these areas. I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan, from paediatrics and adolescents through to midlife and older adults, tailoring care to each stage of life. I practice from a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming and harm-minimisation framework, using a weight-neutral, Health at Every Size® (HAES®)-aligned lens. My approach focuses on supporting optimal nutrition to enhance all aspects of health and well-being—not just food intake alone. In my work at Dietwise, I bring a kind, compassionate and patient-centred ethos to each session. I take a practical and supportive approach, where food is just food—without moral judgement—creating a space that feels safe, respectful and collaborative. I am deeply passionate about helping people build a more positive, sustainable relationship with food and their bodies. I draw on Non-Diet principles to guide care that is individualised and responsive to your unique needs and experiences. I genuinely value the work I do and look forward to working alongside you to support your nutrition goals in a way that feels achievable and right for you. Outside of work, I keep myself busy raising 3 very active children (my eldest an AuADHDer), pursuing my own fitness goals, cooking all manner of delicious foods, listening to true crime podcasts and trying not to over-water my cacti!
