Dr Karina Rune

Psychologist

Karina is a Clinical Psychology Registrar who provides personalised & evidence-based treatment to all clients she works with. As a psychologist, she has supported individuals across the lifespan & from a variety of diverse cultures, with a particular interest in working with with adults (18+) who have experienced trauma. Karina practises from a relational-dynamic & attachment-based framework, with a passion for supporting individuals living with personality disorders, complex/chronic trauma, attachment issues, depression & anxiety. She draws from a range of therapeutic interventions to promote growth & change with her clients, with a specific focus on Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), & Mindfulness. During her clinical training, Karina worked closely with the Healthy Brain Aging clinic identifying current dementia risk profiles in aging adults & lifestyle programs aimed at reducing this risk. She also worked at the Adem Crosby Cancer Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast Hospital where she provided psychological support to both cancer patients & their families. Outside of JCM Psychology, Karina is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC). She speaks several languages and holds a Master’s degree in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Karina spent several years travelling in Asia & the Middle East before settling in Australia in 2003.

Jessie McDonald

Psychologist

Jessie McDonald is a clinical psychologist with experience in the treatment of PTSD, persistent pain, anxiety and depression, personality disorders and relational trauma. She holds a Master of Clinical Psychology, a Master of Mental Health specialising in Psychotherapy, and an Honours degree in psychology from the University of Queensland. Jessie has completed training in EMDR, CBT and DBT, and is currently working toward accreditation in Schema Therapy. Jessie has worked in public mental health settings, forensic settings, private hospitals, universities, and currently holds a research role at the University of Queensland.

Mr Josh Shalevski

Psychologist

Josh is a warm and compassionate psychologist who provides an affirming therapeutic space to all people he works with. He has a keen interest in a wide range of psychological problems, with a passion for working with trauma, men’s health, and neurodiversity. Josh strives to empower individuals to access their innate inner resources, and to walk alongside them on a path of healing, resilience and growth. Josh is passionate about working with adults and teenagers (age 14+) experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anger, stress, and emotion dysregulation difficulties, along with those seeking personal growth and greater reflective insight. He also has a special interest in men’s health and for providing neurodiversity-affirming therapy to individuals with autism and ADHD, having spent several years working in this space. Josh possesses a deep appreciation for the unique challenges often faced by neurodivergent people, and has a strong belief in inclusion, acceptance and celebration of all individuals. As an integrative therapist, Josh’ therapeutic approach is heavily informed by experiential modalities including Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a particular passion for Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) and trauma-informed care. He is also undergoing EMDR training in June 2024 to compliment his work in the trauma field. To maintain a high standard of evidence-based and trauma-informed care, Josh remains committed to continued professional development and regularly attends training, psychology supervision, and clinical workshops. Prior to his clinical work in psychology, Josh spent time working in disability support and coaching (incl. boxing), and was previously a professional athlete.

Mrs Marcia Maydana

Psychologist

Marcia is an experienced and skilled psychologist who provides attuned, personalised & evidenced-based treatment to individuals across the lifespan. As a psychologist, Marcia is passionate about working with individuals (age 13+) who are struggling with life challenges, and believes that a trusting and compassionate environment is essential to promote change and improve emotional wellbeing. Marcia dedicated 14 years to her work in private practice in Sydney before relocating to the Sunshine Coast. She has a particular interest in the treatment of trauma, PTSD and anxiety disorders, including panic, generalised anxiety, phobias and PTSD. Marcia brings extensive experience working with adolescents, adults and couples assisting with trauma and attachment issues, relationship difficulties, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment issues and emotional regulation. She is committed to her continued learning and skill development, bringing to her expertise a variety of evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Applied Neuroscience and Gottman Method Couple’s Therapy. Marcia has an Honours degree in Psychology from the Pontifical Catholic University in Brazil. She is a fully registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Member of The Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), Accredited Schema Therapist by ISST, Certified Applied Neuroscience Practitioner and a Gottman Couple's Therapist (Level 2).

Mrs Melissa Yerbury

Psychologist

Melissa is a compassionate and engaging psychologist who utilises attachment and trauma-informed frameworks to help individuals overcome the effects of adversity and establish meaningful and fulfilling lives. She offers therapy for individuals (age 12+) experiencing a broad range of difficulties, with her special interest areas including PTSD, complex trauma and dissociative disorders. She also provides therapy for a range of other challenges, including OCD, panic disorder, anxiety, phobias, depression, anger, life stress, work difficulties and adjustment disorders. In her work as a therapist, Melissa utilises a range of evidence-based therapies, with her primary modalities including eye-movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and ego state therapy (EST). Melissa’s approach is individually tailored for each client, ensuring they receive personalised, high-quality care that meets their unique needs in working through the difficulties they are facing. Melissa also has strengths in neuropsychological assessment, having previously run her own clinic assessing neurodivergence and learning delays for people of all ages. Melissa has recently returned from Bermuda, where she worked as the lead clinician at The Assessment Centre, conducting a range of neuropsychological assessments. Melissa has extensive experience in educational settings, first as a classroom teacher for many years in both public and private settings, and then more recently as a school psychologist supporting students with mental health challenges and developmental and learning needs. Having a significant background in dance, her special interests include adjunct somatic-based therapies such as dance, movement and yoga for working with people who have experienced trauma. She also has diverse cross-cultural experience, having lived in Australia, Asia, Europe, and more recently Bermuda. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, catching up with her adult sons, studying languages, travelling, cycling, yoga and learning to play the guitar.
