Overview

Dr Hellen moved into tertiary study in 2009 to follow her passion in psychological studies. She has extensive research experience relating to loss and grief, and the impact of trauma on an individual. She has spent the last 7 years working closely with the bereaved within a range of settings including aged care, loss and grief associated with violence and/or crime, and suicide. Hellen has experience working with diverse communities such as Indigenous and LGBTIQA+ individuals. She is an experienced loss and grief support group facilitator, and educator, and has supervised other practitioners working within the loss and grief space. Hellen has a thoughtful and engaging style meeting her clients with warmth and curiosity. She uses a range of evidence-based interventions such as Play Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and Schema Therapy as she journeys alongside her clients. She is currently completing her Supervisor Training as an APS Board Approved Supervisor as well as completing Advanced Training in EMDR, a specific trauma-based therapy. Appropriate Referrals Include: Age: 5 years + Referral Stream: - GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (Medicare Better Access) - Work Safe - Traffic Accident Commission - Private funding - NDIS - DVA - Chronic Disease Management Plan * Loss and Grief (incl. companion animal loss) * Trauma/PTSD/Adjustment * Depression * Anxiety * Relationship/Conflict * Well-being/Stress management including living with chronic illnesses such as Diabetes * Parenting Fees: Initial consultation $285 * 50 minutes Subsequent consultation $265 *50 minutes Subsequent consultation $ 159 *30 minutes Fees are paid in full at the time of consultation. Rebates (with appropriate referral) apply for Mental Health Treatment Plans, WorkSafe, TAC, VOCAT. Client will have a gap fee/out of pocket expense. NDIS and Department of Veterans Affair - no gap fees apply

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master of Psychology (Counselling), and PhD in Psychology (Counselling).
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology
  • Bachelor of Arts (Psychology and Humanities) specializing in Psychology and Sociology

Certifications

  • Certified Bereavement Practitioner, Trained Crisisline Counsellor, and Family Mediator focusing on adolescents.
