Dr Hellen Kemp

Dr Hellen moved into tertiary study in 2009 to follow her passion in psychological studies. She has extensive research experience relating to loss and grief, and the impact of trauma on an individual. She has spent the last 7 years working closely with the bereaved within a range of settings including aged care, loss and grief associated with violence and/or crime, and suicide. Hellen has experience working with diverse communities such as Indigenous and LGBTIQA+ individuals. She is an experienced loss and grief support group facilitator, and educator, and has supervised other practitioners working within the loss and grief space. Hellen has a thoughtful and engaging style meeting her clients with warmth and curiosity. She uses a range of evidence-based interventions such as Play Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and Schema Therapy as she journeys alongside her clients. She is currently completing her Supervisor Training as an APS Board Approved Supervisor as well as completing Advanced Training in EMDR, a specific trauma-based therapy. Nicole is a clinical psychologist who completed her Doctor of Psychology at Deakin University. She is also a qualified psychiatric nurse with over ten years of experience in forensic psychiatry, where she supported adults with serious mental illness and complex needs. Drawing on this background, Nicole brings a deep understanding of the intersection between mental and physical health to her work. Her primary focus lies in the trauma space, and she is passionate about helping individuals manage the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, adjustment difficulties, and low-prevalence conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder. Julie is a registered clinical psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) and an accredited supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia. She has extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults in different settings such as area mental health services, community care organisations and private practice. Julie has a strong interest in Animal Assisted Therapy and together with her accredited mental health therapy dog, Fly, they provide a non-judgemental therapeutic space where young individuals and their care givers can feel safe, listened to, and supported to achieve mutually agreed treatment goals. Mark Tanian

Mark is a registered psychologist, holding a Master of Psychology (Clinical), and is presently completing his clinical registrar program. He has worked with a variety of clients in private practice, including children, adolescents, and adults. He has worked with people from various cultural backgrounds, neurodiverse individuals, and people from the LGBTQIA+ community. Before becoming a psychologist, Mark worked as a professional musician and private music teacher for over 10 years. Mark believes in three key principles in therapy and follows these closely in practice. 1) Clients deserve to be respected, understood, and have autonomy. 2) The practice of psychology should be evidence-based, where clients are offered first-line interventions demonstrated to be effective for the problems they want help with. 3) Therapy is a collaborative process in which the client and psychologist work as equals to define and achieve the client’s goals. Mark has a particular interest in using CBT and exposure-based therapies for the treatment of anxiety problems across the lifespan (ages 6+). These include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, social anxiety, agoraphobia/panic disorder, generalised anxiety, and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD).
