Dr Gnaneswaran is a Canadian psychiatrist who trained in Australia, and now calls Melbourne home. He provides thoughtful, collaborative care across a broad range of psychiatric conditions. He has particular interests in supporting patients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related difficulties, and complex presentations.
Patients often value his calm, direct communication style and his ability to integrate biological, psychological, and social perspectives into clear, practical treatment plans.
His approach is evidence-based and multi-pronged, incorporating not only psychotherapy and medication when appropriate, but also a strong focus on lifestyle factors such as nutrition, movement, sleep and circadian rhythm, social connection, community, and a sense of purpose and autonomy.
He completed the early years of his psychiatric training in Sydney before undertaking Advanced Training in Old Age Psychiatry at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. His clinical interests include Old Age Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Women's Health, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Neuropsychiatry.
Outside of work, he enjoys basketball, guitar, and spending time with family and friends.
