I’ve been practicing as a psychologist for 15 years and really enjoy the work I do. I enjoy listening and seeking to understand. I like appealing to a person’s wisest parts to help them find a way through their difficulties or supporting them to come to a state of acceptance and letting go. Seeing people transform and find freedom is very rewarding. One of my guiding mottos is “you’re a person to be met, not a problem to be solved”.
I engage people in counselling with a collaborative, accepting, compassionate and non-judging spirit. This is combined with my training in cognitive, behavioural, acceptance, somatic and mindfulness based strategies; specifically, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive & Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing. I specialise in teaching mindfulness skills to help people overcome suffering, improve relationships and be less reactive in times of stress. Adding these specific psychological and behavioural skills to the values, strengths and resources you already have can help you find a healthy, workable path forward. I also use an evidence-based Feedback Informed Treatment approach that allows us to monitor and track your progress as we go; and to adjust the counselling sessions so they meet your needs.
Good mental health is not just about psychological skills. Exercise, diet, sleep, relationships, growth, belonging, habits, environment and meaning all play an important part too. Coming to terms with this human condition is easier when you feel supported. My counselling approach takes your whole life into consideration to help you recover and reconnect.
My interest areas are depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and trauma recovery, schizophrenia, bipolar, addictions, adult Asperger’s, grief and existential distress.
