Tamara Buchanan Counsellor

Hi. I’m Tamara from CounsellingCo. I am a Masters-qualified, PACFA-certified, neuroscience and trauma-informed integrative therapist working with… drug, alcohol and behavioural addictions (gambling, shopping, eating, social media etc) relational issues and couples counselling including IPV safety and anger management trauma and C-PTSD grief counselling corporate burnout anxiety depression and other complex mental health issues and personality disorders. I use a strengths-based, person-centred approach to empower clients to re-shape their lives through a renewed perspective of life experiences (psychotherapy), and through simple new practices (counselling) for a healthy and meaningful life. I have a rich lived experience, growing up in a “less than nurturing environment”. I have close family dynamics shaped by alcoholism and have strived through workaholism and corporate burn-out, fuelling my decades-long study of human behaviour. I have a good sense of humour, so Counselling with me is usually dynamic, challenging and can be fun. I am “big” on educating Clients on the neuroscience of emotions and behaviour, and together, we create a simple map for how to cultivate a healthy lifestyle and cope with life’s challenges. I use a range of techniques and modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, ST, PIT, IFS, psychodynamic, narrative and somatic therapies. Whether counselling is face-to-face or via zoom, therapy at CounsellingCo will always be safe, dynamic and engaging.
