Overview
Kara John is an insightful counsellor with many years’ experience working with individuals and couples. She is a PACFA Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Level 2 specialist in Emotion Focused Therapy. Kara transitioned into therapy after a successful career in the business world, bringing a unique perspective and the ability to deeply relate to her clients' experiences. As a practitioner, she is trauma informed and is client led, ensuring her therapy sessions are conducted in a safe, ethical, and professional manner.
Kara is passionate about helping her clients uncover the root cause of the behaviours and patterns that bring her clients to therapy. By addressing this, she empowers clients to finally be free of these issues instead of band aid approaches. She achieves this through evidence-based interventions that work on the underlying core issues and blends this with hands-on, practical strategies that can be implemented for immediate improvements. Clients seeking meaningful and real change are supported by the therapeutic relationship that Kara creates, helping them feel safe and free from judgement.
With all her clients, Kara holds the unwavering belief that no matter how hopeless things may seem, positive change will happen when working together with the right strategies. Key to this is her collaboration with clients to understand their goals for therapy and helping create the pathway towards this. From here, she draws on a range of different types of therapy to work towards the goal, such as Emotion focused therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, plus others. Kara ensures she thoroughly assesses and understands her clients in order to select the most appropriate interventions based on the client’s needs, personality, issue and stage of change. She frequently reviews progress and refines these interventions based on client feedback and success.
