Dr Phillip Aouad

Psychologist

Phil is a psychologist and academic who received his PhD in 2020 from the University of Sydney. He has an interest in range of presentations, with a particular focus on disordered eating, trauma, and sex and sexuality. He has training in several behavioural therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Family Based Therapy (FBT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR, L1). Phil has worked as a relationship educator and case coordinator with people from broad and diverse backgrounds including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD); and sex, sexuality and gender diverse (LGBTQIA+) individuals. Phil takes an individual, authentic, sensitive, holistic, caring, collaborative, and genuine approach in his practice and has experience working with people across the lifespan (young people and adults). He has worked with a broad range of presentations including, but not limited to: eating and feeding disorders (i.e. anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant and restrictive food intake disorder, and other specified feeding and eating disorders); personality disorders; learning difficulties; neurodivergence (ASD & ADHD); substance use; obsessive-compulsive; and complex trauma among others. Phil strives to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with his clients, and actively encourages non-judgemental, open, and honest communication. He aims to create a safe, nurturing, genuine and healing environment for his patients and believes that with the right perspective, attitude, and motivation full recovery is possible. He adopts a person-centred, authentic and humanistic approach to his work, and embraces the uniqueness that makes each person an individual. He is a member of the the Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders; and is currently serving as the Early Career Researchers Special Interest Group Co-chair for the global Academy of Eating Disorders. Phil currently offers in-person, telehealth, and weekend consultations (Saturday's; telehealth only; limited).
