Overview

In my practice, I am deeply committed to providing a judgment-free, empathetic, and safe space that fosters healing and growth. My goal as a therapist is to help you develop evidence-based alternatives and coping strategies in a safe therapeutic space surrounded by empathy and confidentiality. My role as a counsellor is to create a climate where clients can examine their thoughts, feelings, and actions and empower them to arrive at their own solutions for their issues. I assist my clients in finding answers that are most congruent with their values and culture. I restrain myself from giving advice or answers to their questions. My role is to provide a safe and inviting context where clients can explore the congruence between their values and behaviours. When they acknowledge that what they are doing is not getting them what they want, I assist them in developing new ways of thinking and behaving to help them move closer to their goals. I respect my client’s right to decide their goals, make informed decisions, choose a course of action, and assume responsibility for their decisions. I understand the difference between exposing my values and imposing my values. At the same time, I also provide support and accountability to ensure that my clients stay on track and reach their goals. Finally, I provide ongoing feedback and resources to help my clients stay on track and reach their goals. I usually begin by exploring the client’s expectations and goals. Even though most clients initially have a vague idea of what they expect from therapy, most of them show interest in getting solutions to problems, stopping hurting, changing others, or overcoming personal issues without changing their ways of thinking and behaving. I prefer but am not limited to using CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused therapy, trauma therapy, motivational interviewing and/or other appropriate modalities for a more personalized approach. My goal is to provide a non-judgmental, safe space for my clients and encourage clients to express their true feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives. I am willing to help them develop insight into themselves or their relationships with sensitivity to the cultural and individual needs of the clients and families served. I am here to introduce my clients to a strength-based approach so they can discover their inner strength and work towards establishing achievable goals that will prepare them to face life's challenges.
