Nelle Frances
Autism Therapist & Trainer
Nelle Frances is an Autism Therapist and Trainer specialising in sensory-first, regulation-based practice across the lifespan. Her work is grounded in a neurobiological understanding of autism, recognising that sensory processing and nervous-system regulation directly influence emotional regulation, communication, learning, behaviour and participation.
Nelle reframes behaviour as an adaptive response to sensory load and perceived safety, rather than as a behavioural deficit. When sensory homeostasis is supported, individuals are better able to access skills, engage socially and build functional capacity.
Drawing on her experience as a parent, Special Needs Educator, Autism Therapist and program developer, Nelle supports children, adolescents, adults and older autistic individuals, as well as families, educators and support teams.
She is the author of the Ben & His Helmet children’s book series and Autism– Simply Explained, and co-author of the Sustainable Social Skills Program for schools.
Nelle is the creator of the Sensory Detective® Framework, a structured, collaborative approach that helps individuals identify sensory triggers, develop self-regulation strategies and reduce nervous-system load.
Nelle provides consultation, advocacy and training services face-to-face and via telehealth, and delivers the Sensory Detective® Training Workshop nationally and internationally.
