Tamika is a Counsellor and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with extensive experience in the field of mental health in the non-government, public and private health care settings. She works with both adolescents and adults who present with a broad range of difficulties, including: anxiety disorders, depression, grief and loss, relationship and adjustment difficulties, disordered eating and emotional dysregulation.
She values and respects a supportive therapeutic relationship. Person-Centred and Trauma-informed care are important to her to help clients feel heard and validated. Tamika aims to build a safe, supportive therapeutic environment to enable clients to share their difficulties, explore their current strengths and to learn effective skills and strategies to overcome presenting issues.
Tamika works from an evidence-based practice model, tailored to the needs of the individual, with specific interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational interviewing (MI) and Solutions Focused Therapy. She uses an empathic and strength-based approach.
