Overview

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to assist people emotionally; to me it is the most meaningful work I can do. I know how difficult it can be to speak to a psychotherapist about deeply personal issues, so it is incredibly important for me to be as sensitive and empathic as I would like a psychotherapist to be with me. It helps us to feel better if we speak to a professional and not keep our emotions and feelings locked up inside ourselves. Talking to a psychotherapist can help us to accept our feelings, accept and understand ourselves better and can reduce incredibly painful states of mind as well as bodily pain and discomfort from the stress we may be experiencing. Sometimes we just want to be "fixed" immediately, and I do suggest "tools" that can assist in improving what is happening for you, right now. Sharon has a BA Honours in Applied Psychology and a Master of Psychology (Clinical). She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (Clinical College). Sharon is an Affiliate of NSWIPP NSW Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and has had a wide range of training with trauma, abuse and early parenting issues. Sharon has experience working with a wide range of clients including adults from non-English speaking backgrounds, migrants and refugees, young adult university students as well as older adults. Sharon has been working as a psychotherapist and clinical psychologist for over thirty years. She has a keen interest in working with people who have difficulties with self- esteem, interpersonal difficulties, early family trauma, anxiety and depression. She has worked in government community health centres, charity service and in private practice.
