My name is Kathryn. I work in the following areas:
- Interpersonal trauma- including sexual, physical, emotional and religious trauma;
- Perinatal psychology - including matrescence/patrescence (the transition to parenthood), birth trauma, sexual rediscovery, and infertility;
- Vicarious (secondary) trauma - including lawyers, doctors, first responders, etc.; and
- Specialist counselling for legal professionals.
Traumatic experiences can radically shift how we experience the world, leaving us anxious, confused and untrusting. For those with interpersonal trauma, other people are unsafe and we doubt our own judgements. For those who had a birth trauma, the joy of a new baby is paired with distress, and the challenges of a changed identity and intimate relationship. For those with vicarious trauma, the traumas of others start to become our own. Fortunately, with help, you can find yourself again.
I help people make sense of the events and their responses. I help them gain a new sense of self. For women, I can also help with the transition to motherhood and sexual rediscovery after birth. I believe that therapy is a partnership of equals. I am the expert in different treatments, and you are the expert on your own life and experiences.
It can feel too hard to trust someone when you have experienced trauma, so counselling can be a terrifying prospect. My clients tell me that they like that I am non-judgmental, help them feel safe and that I am human. I want to partner with you to journey through your experience and face your fears together. It is never too late to start living fully.
