Overview

Karla is a registered psychologist and Clinical Psychology Registrar who recently completed her Doctor of Clinical and Forensic Psychology at Swinburne University. Prior to becoming a psychologist, she spent more than 15 years working as a clinician and clinical leader within specialist therapeutic services supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing trauma, family violence, sexual abuse, and other complex life challenges. Karla is passionate about creating a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and supported to make meaningful and lasting change. She recognises that every person’s experiences are unique and works collaboratively with clients to develop an individualised understanding of their difficulties, drawing on their strengths while building practical skills to improve emotional wellbeing, resilience, and quality of life. Karla has experience working with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, parenting concerns, grief and loss, life transitions, and the impacts of family violence and abuse more broadly. She has a particular interest in supporting clients to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and develop practical strategies to navigate life’s challenges. Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based. Karla draws on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, attachment-informed practice, mindfulness-based strategies, and psychoeducation.
