Overview

Fiona is a warm and compassionate clinical psychologist who particularly enjoys working with adults struggling with anxiety. ‘I have a particular interest in helping people to shake off the shackles of anxiety. High levels of anxiety create narrow boundaries within your world, making tasks difficult, damaging and limiting relationships and preventing you from achieving goals and enjoying life. I understand how difficult it is to face anxiety and I enjoy helping people gradually overcome their fears.’ Fiona has experience working in a range of different contexts including private practice, specialist clinics and as a school counsellor. This has given her valuable expertise in working with a variety of different issues including: anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, grief, hoarding, study stress and procrastination, parenting difficulties and coping with stressful life challenges. Her interest in anxiety was formed during her time working in two anxiety specialist clinics: the Anxiety Treatment and Research Unit based at Cumberland Hospital and the Emotional Health Clinic (EHC) at Macquarie University. Fiona is skilled in using a variety of evidence based treatment approaches including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy and Schema Therapy. Her approach is collaborative and respectful. With each client she tailors therapy to address their needs, preferences, goals and values. As a person, Fiona is empathic, understanding and non-judgmental. She believes that everyone has strengths they can use to help them handle their difficulties. Fiona is a Registered Psychologist (area of practice – clinical psychology) and a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association.
