Christina Derbyshire has worked as a coach, counsellor and psychologist for nearly two decades, both within health organisations and in private practice. She works with teenagers and adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds and has helped clients presenting with many different issues. For example, depression, anxiety, stress, substance misuse, relationship issues, trauma and grief are common conditions which cause pain and distress that can potentially be helped by this experienced practitioner. Christina is trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities including (but not limited to) cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and motivational interviewing. She tailors her approach to the client’s individual needs and understands the importance of establishing good rapport.
Christina provides warm, skilled and understanding psychological services focusing on solutions and facilitating positive change in both thinking and behaviour. She is passionate about and experienced at assisting the needs of clients in regional, rural and remote locations – areas that are often under-resourced.
Whilst Christina has assisted clients with many different presenting issues; she also has considerable skills in treating the connections between eating, weight and emotions. Patients who are overweight or obese are often referred in order for them to understand the “why” of overeating, not just the “what”.
