Amanda Buckland founded Neurodivergent Psychologist as a Virtual Practice in 2021. Telehealth provides an opportunity for individuals, parents and families within the Autistic and Neurodivergent Community (or those who suspect they or a loved one may be Neurodivergent) to access Autism & Neurodivergent-empowering Support with a Psychologist of their choice, without the barrier of travelling or needing to live locally. Outreach visits can be arranged for NDIS Participants (Local to Eltham in Metropolitan Melbourne) who require this.
Prior to working in Private Practice, Amanda had almost twenty-years of professional experience providing psychological services to children, adolescents, parents and families in a range of Educational Settings. As someone passionate about embracing diversity, Amanda chooses to work as an openly Autistic and otherwise Neurodivergent Psychologist.
Capacity Building Support and Focused Psychological Strategies are provided using an empowering, holistic approach, taking Autistic & other Neurodivergent neuro-physiology into account.
A range of evidence-based modalities may be used, taking into account the individual's current needs and priorities, longer-term goals, the preferred way to communicate, neurodivergence, identity, values and culture. Supporting emotion regulation takes into account differences in Autistic vs non-autistic neurophysiology, meaning different things may activate (and calm) the body's flight/fight/freeze/fawn/flop response.
