Overview

Hello, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and executive coach and work in Shenton Park. We all encounter difficulties in life and my aim is to support clients to feel resourced to better handle the ups and downs that life sends our way including work stress, relationship issues, grief and loss and other confusing and challenging life circumstances. Exploring such experiences with a trusted counsellor can help to normalise difficult experiences and dispel the sense of being alone or overwhelmed by life’s challenges. I offer non-judgemental listening, patience and respect to create an environment of safety and trust. My approach is to adapt to the needs of the client and to assist clients to gain perspective, increase self-awareness and draw meaning from their experiences. I encourage clients to engage with their own strengths, resourcefulness and resilience and to process difficult feelings such as grief, anger, disappointment and confusion. I support clients to connect with what is most important to them through values clarification and to identify their issues, to develop preferred options that align with their values and implement change to better manage their own life. Previous clients have particularly commented on my ability to support them to find clarity and structure to circumstances they find chaotic and overwhelming. I draw on a range of therapies including motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, narrative therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy to support clients to understand and cope with their immediate concerns. I have a special interest in the prevention of workplace stress and burnout. I am a strong advocate of employee wellbeing and holistic best-practice approaches to employees and employers working together to create safe workplaces. My goal is to assist clients to harness the positive benefits of stress and find solutions to the impacts of work stress. I have a Masters in Counselling from the University of Notre Dame, Western Australia. I am registered with PACFA. I am also trained as an executive coach. I have worked in private practices as a counsellor and as a coach and enjoy the diversity of clients this type of work brings. I stay up to date with the latest developments in counselling theory and practice and implement best practice standards for counselling. I look forward to meeting you to help you address your concerns. Alison Bickell Registered Clinical Counsellor
