I am an occupational therapist with a passion for dance. As an OT, I have over 19 years of experience in various areas including pediatrics, oncology, cardiac rehabilitation, general rehabilitation, palliative care, and occupational rehabilitation. I also casually lecture and complete other academic duties. I have particular strengths with communication, engagement, motivation, and building relationships and have been able to use these strengths to assist people work towards and achieve their therapy goals.
I started to develop a passion for dance as I child from a very young age. I was privileged to receive quality training from DiSalvatore Dance Academy. It was in this environment that I learnt many key life lessons and skills that have shaped me as a person. I have over 14 years of experience dance teaching.
It is my belief that dance has been my backbone to health-enhancing and health-protecting elements of my life. Research has also started to highlight therapeutic benefits which include (however are not limited to) cardiac fitness, muscle strength, motor development, social connectedness, mental wellbeing, and executive functioning.
Using my skills as an Occupational Therapist and Dance Teacher, OT Movement aims to run individual and group-based dance classes with a focus on personal therapy goals. The focus of the dance programs are endless and depend on the needs of the individual/s. This can include goals such as emotional regulation, improving flexibility in thinking, coping with change, motor coordination and/or strength, core strength, social goals, and community integration.
