Overview

I am registered to practice as a psychologist in Australia. I hold the endorsement of Clinical Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (the national regulatory board for psychologists). An endorsement on registration indicates that a psychologist has additional qualifications and supervised experience in a specific area of practice. I am a Board-approved supervisor for the clinical psychology registrar program. I am an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Psychology with First Class Honours (University of Western Sydney, 2008) and a Master of Psychology, Clinical Psychology (University of Western Sydney, 2012). My core work is in the area of clinical psychology and I have regularly prepared assessment reports for Family and Community Services (FaCS), schools, insurance companies, the Australian Defence Forces and medical practitioners. My work in the area of Forensic Psychology comprises presentencing assessment reports, independent psychological assessments, and treatment reports; I have been providing these services for the past 10 years. I am an approved treatment provider with NSW Family Court. I have worked as a casual lecturer at Western Sydney University where I have taken Primary Lecturer and Unit Coordinator roles in the Master of Clinical Psychology program in the unit Child Clinical Psychology and the Master of Professional Psychology program in the unit Assessment: Psychological Practice. I am actively involved in professional training and community education. I have a research interest in the areas of loneliness and anxiety sensitivity and have recently published my research in this area: Narchal R, McDavitt SA (2017) Loneliness and Anxiety Sensitivity: Understanding Behavioural Avoidance in the Lonely. Acta Psychopathologica. I have presented at the Australian Association of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (AACBT-2011) on the assessment of OCD. I have developed and conducted training seminars accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners for medical practitioners including General Practitioners (The Assessment and Treatment of Child and Adolescent Anxiety Disorders, 2012- present). I have developed and run training seminars in child and adolescent mental health for school teachers, childcare workers, and school counsellors. I was an invited presenter at the South Western Sydney School Counsellors Conference in 2014 where I presented a seminar entitled: Childhood Mental Health: Identifying Children at Risk and Implementing Treatments that Work. I provide supervision in the areas of psychometric assessment, diagnostic assessment, and psychological treatment with psychologists and intern psychologists as part of Advantage Psychology’s clinical placement program and clinical registrar program.
