Overview

***PETER IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING REFERRALS AND ENQUIRIES FOR CHILD AND ADOLESCENT ASSESSMENT SERVICES*** Assessment enquiries: Please select the web link above, or select Belconnen Psychological Assessments in the practice information above and complete the Assessment Enquiry Form under Forms. Peter is a psychologist with a particular interest in psychological assessment for children and adolescents. He works with young people and their families to develop a clearer understanding of each client's individual strengths, needs and learning profile, and to identify factors that may be affecting their learning, development, behaviour or participation. Peter provides assessment for concerns including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, cognitive and academic functioning, Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), including dyslexia and dysgraphia, learning difficulties, behavioural difficulties, and other complex developmental presentations. His practice is trauma-informed and neurodiversity-informed, and he offers both diagnostic and broader transdiagnostic assessment depending on the referral question and the goals of the child and family. Peter takes a broad, developmentally informed approach to assessment rather than considering symptoms or diagnostic categories in isolation. Where relevant, he considers factors such as developmental history, educational functioning, behaviour across settings, sleep, physical health and other circumstances that may influence a child’s presentation. Peter has experience across community, education, Defence and human resources settings, which informs his understanding of the systems children and families may need to navigate. His approach is collaborative, structured and strengths-focused, with assessment tailored to the individual child and the questions their family is seeking to answer. He is a proud member of the LGBTQIA+SB community and brings his own lived experience of neurodivergence to his work. Alongside his professional training, Peter's life experiences contribute to an approach that is warm, affirming and committed to creating an assessment environment where children, young people and families from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed, respected and understood. Peter practises through Belconnen Psychological Assessments in the Belconnen area of Canberra and is currently accepting referrals for child and adolescent psychological assessments. Initial and feedback consultations can be provided by telehealth where appropriate, while assessment appointments are generally conducted in person.
