Dr Jo Sheedy

Psychologist

Dr Jo Sheedy has a particular interest in psychology as it relates to health. She wrote her PhD on risk and resilience factors associated with living with persistent pain and is passionate about working with people to promote recovery from injury or illness. Prior to retraining as a psychologist, Jo was a physiotherapist for many years, working in the fields of musculoskeletal physiotherapy, oncology and chronic pain. Therefore, she is well placed to understand both psychological and physical factors that may increase pain or suffering. Jo is particularly interested in working with people to help them use the power of their mind to promote physical recovery. She is passionate about supporting her clients to achieve their health goals or to lift their performance to a new level. Jo uses a range of therapeutic approaches to help her clients achieve their goals. These include cognitive-behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), internal family systems therapy and mindfulness-based approaches. Jo is a full Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and a Fellow of the APS College of Counselling Psychologists. She is a registered provider with WorkSafe Victoria and the TAC.
