Overview

“Life can feel overwhelming at times and it can be hard to find the way forward. It might be that anxiety is stopping you from enjoying life, relationships are problematic, you’re not thriving at work, or you often feel low, dissatisfied or stuck in your life. Therapy can help you find clearer understanding to make more informed decisions about what you want to change – or come to terms with things you can’t. It can also be an exciting space for personal exploration and can offer support during tough times.” Hugh is a psychotherapist and clinical family therapist who works with individuals and couples as well as families. He is a member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and the Australian Association of Family Therapy and specialises in problematic childhood and adolescent behaviour such as violence in the home, school refusal and anti-social behaviour. He also supports parents to co-parent cooperatively post separation and helps single parents to create a secure environment for their children after experiencing conflict and family violence. Hugh is down-to-earth, curious, and pragmatic. He ensures his clients feel safe, heard and understood. His relational approach helps clients to understand themselves and others more compassionately and to recognise where they have fallen into unhelpful patterns and find successful solutions to the problems those patterns create. Initial sessions with Hugh will build a picture of what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain. You may have a clear idea, or you may simply feel something isn’t right and want professional input to discover more. Painful experiences from the past may be stopping you from living more fully in the present. However you arrive, Hugh will meet you with warmth, curiosity and a willingness to discover what makes you thrive. This sets the agenda for how you’ll work with Hugh, what to prioritise and the duration of the therapy. Hugh’s trauma-informed approach supports clients to improve reliability and renew trust within current and future relationships and to address problems and disappointments from the past. His approach helps to create room for people to be able to fulfil their own position in life in an honest, fair and responsible manner. By working this way, clients feel supported to more easily own up to their behaviours, be open to doing things differently and to receive their fair share of love and care.
