Gretta Olsen (She/they)Counsellor (Provisional)

Glimmer Counselling 8-10 Mansfied St, Thornbury, Victoria, 3071

Overview

Gretta is a passionate advocate for accessible, high-quality mental health care, especially for neurodivergent, queer and gender-diverse folks. She is informed by her own lived experiences and associated challenges of neurodivergence (AuDHD), chronic illness and queerness. Her lived experiences, in addition to having many beloved peers belonging to the aforementioned communities, have made her highly empathetic to the utmost importance of validating, and affirming mental healthcare. Gretta dedicated much of her university studies to researching and writing about factors that impact the mental health and well-being of gender-diverse and neurodivergent communities and strives to keep up to date with the latest research via regular professional development. With foundations in person-centred, strengths-based care; Gretta uses an amalgamation of modalities such as Narrative Therapy, DBT, and ACT as well as a lens of feminist, queer and intersectional theory to inform her practice. As well as her main interest areas, Gretta has experience in matters relating to grief, trauma, family violence and substance use. Gretta is warm, intuitive, good-humoured, authentic, unashamedly daggy and wholeheartedly embracing of diversity in all its forms. Outside of individual counselling, Gretta co-facilitates a peer support group for neurodivergent LGBTQIA+ folks. She is an occasional DJ and her special interests include the natural world, especially birds (she’s a HUGE bird nerd), music, film and TV.
