Dr Salena Bhanji

Psychologist

Dr Salena Bhanji is a warm, authentic and highly experienced Counselling Psychologist who is deeply invested in building a strong therapeutic connection with each person she works with. With 18 years of professional experience across both public and private health sectors, in Australia and the UK, Dr Salena has trained in a broad range of evidence-based psychological therapies that are proven to be effective for numerous mental health issues. Dr Salena is highly skilled in weaving together various treatment modalities in an integrative fashion, so that each person receives a treatment approach that is uniquely tailored for them. One keen area of expertise for Dr Salena is working in the field of Disordered Eating, Eating Disorders and Body Image Issues. Dr Salena provides treatment to Adults (and older Adolescents) who present with Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa and OSFED primarily. Her training in this area has spanned 10 years with extensive training in hospitals, outpatient facilities and private practice in Australia, the UK and the USA. She has also had clinical responsibility for managing the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and managing a team of eating disorder clinicians for Australia's leading eating disorder charity, the Butterfly Foundation. Her clinical focus in each session is to progressively help clients to achieve their therapy goals by: (a) Developing a sound understanding of all possible factors that likely contributed to the development of mental health issues and actively keep them going; (b) Offering comprehensive knowledge of psychological theory and neuroscience so that clients have solid insight into how and why therapy will work for them; (c) Teaching a whole range of skills and strategies that improve ways of coping with difficult circumstances and "being" with difficult inner experiences; (d) Validating and providing space for each person to reflect as deeply as they like on what is happening for them during their course of therapy and how things are evolving in their life; and (e) Presenting opportunities for ongoing personal development and the achievement of holistic and balanced living. Psychology is Dr Salena's life passion - alongside taking long hikes in nature, reading a good psychological crime thriller , theatre, music, Italian food and travelling with her family.
