Dr Samy Hoong is a Clinical Psychologist Registrar who has a keen interest working with elderly, children, adolescents, adults and groups. Dr Samy has a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Murdoch University, BA (Hons), B.Ed (Hons) degree, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Western Australia.
Prior to becoming involved in psychological services, Dr Samy is a qualified Acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and had worked with many elderly adults suffering from stroke, cancer, arthritis etc in helping her clients to manage their pain. As a psychologist, Dr Samy has worked at Abbotsford Hospital, 360 Health and Community (previously known as Medicare Local) and Department for Child Protection.
Currently as a Clinical Psychologist Registrar, Dr Samy specializes in the management of adult psychopathology, which includes working with clients diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder (panic, GAD, OCD, and mood), depression, complex trauma, low self esteem and assertiveness issues, relationship difficulties and chronic pain.
Dr Samy believes in the transformative practice of mindful awareness and has adopted mindfulness as a healing modality helping her to be present and attuned to both her own internal world as well as the world of her clients. Dr Samy runs weekly Mindfulness group and encourages her clients to practice mindfulness both formally and informally on a daily basis.
Dr Samy provides a warm, empathic approach to therapy emphasizing the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client. A range of therapeutic techniques were utilized in order to tailor therapy to meet the specific needs of each individual client. They are as follow:
