Overview

Dr Hughes is a consultant psychiatrist with more than 17 years’ experience across public and private psychiatric settings in Australia. She completed her psychiatric training in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, where she developed a strong interest in advocating for vulnerable population groups, including survivors of domestic violence and people affected by early childhood trauma. As a consultant she has extensive experience working with neurodivergent patients and a particular interest in how ADHD presents during hormonal transitions, including perimenopause, menopause, and the pre- and postnatal periods. Having grown up in rural Queensland and New South Wales, Dr Hughes also advocates for improved access to specialist services in rural and remote communities. Dr Hughes completed her postgraduate medical studies at the University of Queensland in Brisbane after earning an honours degree in Medical Engineering from Queensland University of Technology. Dr Hughes is a member of the Royal and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) including its Psychotherapy faculty and the ADHD and Family Violence Network.
