Dr Nisha Brown

Occupational Therapist

Nisha has a special interest in newborn behaviour and infant development, and is committed to helping parents to better understand, support and optimise, their baby’s behaviour and development, right from birth. Nisha’s PhD and post-doctoral studies involved detailed examinations of how babies’ (preterm and full-term) behaviours relate to brain development (MRI), medical and social factors, and, importantly, long-term development. These studies, based at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, also took her to Boston (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School) for specialist training in the developmental assessment of babies. Nisha has presented her research findings nationally and internationally and published in the top international paediatric medical journals. Nisha consults at Offspring Child Health Specialists, a multidisciplinary paediatric clinic in Hawthorn (https://offspringhealth.com.au) and welcomes new patients up to 12 months old. In some circumstances, Nisha also provides home-based services. Prior to private practice, Nisha held a public position at the Royal Women’s Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive and Special Care Nurseries for many years, and she now continues her role here on a casual basis. She has also worked in community multidisciplinary paediatric therapy teams both here and in the UK. Nisha is an Honorary Fellow at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, and also at the University of Melbourne Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
