Dr Leigh Elliott Psychologist

Leigh is a LGBT-IQ+ friendly clinical psychologist with a warm, empathic and collaborative style of working with individuals across the lifespan. Leigh graduated from the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) program at Deakin University in 2017. He completed the course work and the placement component of his candidature in 2016. His thesis titled "Improving social and behavioural functioning in children with autism spectrum disorder: A videogame based feasibility trial" was accepted in July 2017. Leigh has experience working with individuals across the life span ranging from young children to older adults (65+). He works with individuals with high prevalence conditions such as anxiety, depression and adjustment as well as with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism. He has experience working with parents and families around behavioural difficulties, parenting and relationships. As a member of the LGBT-IQ+ community, Leigh also has a passion for working with individuals and families of individuals who identify as same sex attracted and/or gender diverse. Leigh draws on evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) when working with clients. He also has experience working with parents and families using Structural and Solution Focused family therapy techniques to address broader relational difficulties. Leigh currently works for Austin Health as a clinical psychologist in their Child and Youth Mental Health Service. He works with young people who are at risk of developing or are living with acute mental health difficulties and their families. He also works at Richmond Central Psychology as a clinical psychologist.
