Overview

Janine is a perinatal psychologist who works in private practice in Red Hill, Brisbane, QLD. Janine brings warmth and understanding but also humour and light-heartedness to therapy sessions. Janine has a passion for working with women and their families as they face the challenges of family planning, pregnancy, perinatal loss, preparing for birth, birth trauma, transition to parenthood, and parenting little ones. Janine has been interested in supporting women and their families for many years. Janine initially became interested in the mother-infant relationship through academic research and spent many years investigating how infants grow, interact, and develop in their social environment. Janine completed her PhD in developmental psychology in 2013 studying whether newborn babies have an innate ability to imitate (turns out they do not!). She has also worked on studies helping mothers tune into their babies’ needs through a smartphone-app. Janine completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at The University of Queensland in 2021 and now works as a perinatal psychologist in private practice. Janine has completed training from the Centre for Perinatal Psychology in bereavement and loss as well as an intensive perinatal training. She has also completed the Becoming Us training with Elly Taylor which focuses on supporting the couple relationship in the perinatal period. Recently, Janine completed advanced training in Compassion Focused Therapy. Janine adapts her therapeutic approach to best meet the needs of her clients. She predominately draws on a compassion-focused framework as well as using attachment, mindfulness, ACT and CBT approaches. Janine welcomes single parents and same-sex couples into therapy, and invites partners, newborns, and toddlers to attend sessions to support the needs of the family. Most of all, Janine is willing and engaged to hear your story, work collaboratively on your goals, and to provide a therapeutic space that is safe, comfortable, and supported.
