I have been working as a Clinical Psychologist for over 20 years in adult mental health. I am passionate about working with adults (18+) to maximise their mental health, wellbeing and quality of life, including for difficulties such as anxiety, depression, adjustment, grief and loss and also adjustment to diagnosis and treatment for cancer diagnoses or other health illnesses.
My area of specialised interest includes anxiety, with my clinical doctorate studies in the area of social phobia. For the past 5 years, I have been working in oncology at Alfred Hospital supporting individuals with serious cancer diagnoses and supporting them adjust to diagnosis, to cope with treatment, survivorship and sadly for some at the end of their life.
I have previously worked in public and private adult mental health in Perth and Melbourne in community and hospital settings. I have also worked in private psychology practice in Perth, Launceston and Melbourne.
My therapy approach involves reaching a shared understanding of a person's challenges and then utilising evidence based best practice, primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy where appropriate to achieve improvement in mental health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Clients who have an appropriate Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $136.35 per session with me (for a maximum of 10 sessions per year, with a GP review after 6 sessions).
