Overview

Dr. Fong Chun CHAN, Grace is a highly experienced psychiatrist with an extensive career spanning over 16 years, including more than 12 years working with children and adolescents presenting with mental health challenges. Grace’s psychiatric training started in 2008 in Hong Kong and she has been qualified as a specialist in Psychiatry in Hong Kong since 2015. Over the years, Grace has gained extensive experience working in major public hospitals in Hong Kong, including the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) and Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), which are affiliated with the medical schools of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU), respectively. Grace was the Honorary Clinical Tutor of CUHK in 2011-2017 and the Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of HKU in 2017-2023. Grace is a Psychotherapy supervisor in Hong Kong and a trainer of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in both Hong Kong and Australia. Before coming to Melbourne, Grace was the Deputy Team Head of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Team of QMH. In 2023, Grace relocated to Melbourne and joined Orygen Youth Health (OYH) as a Consultant Psychiatrist, further expanding her international experience. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and holds Psychiatry specialist recognition with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Her roles at OYH encompass work with the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Team, Eating Disorder Team, Hospital in the Home Team and Youth Access Team, where she provides critical diagnostic clarification, leads multidisciplinary assessments, and contributes to community-based and acute psychiatric services. While Grace is experienced in managing the whole spectrum of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders, she has special expertise in managing eating disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD, autism), school refusal and behavioral disturbance in children and adolescents. Throughout Grace’s career, she has excelled in both clinical and leadership roles, including managing multidisciplinary teams, developing new services such as a Lifespan Eating Disorder Clinic and an Adult ADHD & Autism Clinic. Her extensive experience in supervising and training junior colleagues, coupled with her active involvement in research and teaching, underscores her commitment to advancing the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Grace’s multifaceted background enables her to deliver holistic care which integrates a deep understanding of developmental stages, family dynamics, and evidence-based practices, ensuring a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan for each patient. In her private practice, Grace remains committed to advancing mental health care through compassionate, patient-centered treatment and ongoing professional development.
