Dr Bianca Swainston is a consultant psychiatrist who sees general adult presentations. She has particular interests in trauma and adult ADHD, and the complex ways these intersect with other conditions such as anxiety and mood difficulties. She is skilled at navigating diagnostic nuance to form a holistic understanding of overlapping presentations. Her approach is thorough, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based practice, while also recognising the importance of collaboration and whole-person wellbeing.
Bianca is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. She is passionate about helping individuals feel heard and understood and works with each patient to develop treatment plans that reflect their individual needs and goals. Bianca believes in creating a warm, respectful therapeutic partnership where patients feel supported throughout their treatment. She is dedicated to delivering high-quality mental health care that honours each individual’s autonomy, experiences, and resilience.
Bianca completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2012 and her specialist psychiatry training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. She has over ten years’ experience working across public mental health services in Sydney, regional NSW, and interstate. She also has experience working in a community mental health team that uses a strengths-based approach to support parents whose mental health impacts their parenting.
Her clinical experience includes working with adult ADHD, particularly with women and those with more inattentive or internalising presentation, as well as supporting individuals affected by emotional abuse, childhood neglect or misattunement, coercive control, domestic and family violence, and the long-term impacts of trauma. She has a trauma-informed approach to her practice.
