Hello, my name is Bernadette and I have been working as a psychologist for over thirty years. This also means that as a person I have seen a lot of life, both good and difficult. I have always been interested in understanding the factors that shape who we are as people and building capacity for clients to feel more in control of how they respond to life events. We often cannot change what happens to us in life, but we can understand, control, and shape our responses to these events.
Bernadette holds a Bachelor of Social Science, a Master of Letters (High Distinction) and a PhD in psychology. She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Bernadette is also an endorsed Clinical Psychologist. Bernadette has an extensive knowledge of a range of evidence-based therapy practices including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focussed and Brief Interventions. Bernadette’s experience in the profession means that she is well placed to work with you using the intervention strategy that best matches - the goals that you are working toward, your personality style, and the most recent evidence base for the problems that you experience.
Bernadette has been a registered psychologist for over 30 years with extensive experience as both a clinician and academic. As a clinician she has worked in public hospital and private practice settings and has spent many years working in collaboration with both GPs and consultant psychiatry services to achieve optimum outcomes for clients. Her practice is based primarily around CBT frameworks though she also has experience across a range of therapeutic methods as described above. She has held multiple senior roles in both public health and the university sector and has been the Director of Graduate Psychology training programs. She has an extensive history of clinical research, a substantive publication record and has presented her work at many national and international conferences.
