Overview
Tom joins The READ Clinic in May 2022 as a Senior Clinical Psychologist. Tom graduated from the University of Otago with a Master of Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology in 2019. Throughout his training, Tom worked in a university clinic, a neurorehabilitation ward, and a correctional/forensic setting. He concurrently completed research exploring the experience of interpersonal difficulties and schizotypy; and later investigating social-emotional and self-regulatory development in children. Since moving to Australia, he has worked in private practice on the Central Coast. Through his varied experience, Tom has a wide knowledge base of mental health disorders and life problems. Tom has a genuine and empathetic style, and is passionate about creating space for open and honest discussions that lead to positive change and growth. He adopts a flexible treatment approach to suit each individual and achieve their goals; and is skilled in a number of evidence-based therapies including cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, and eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy. His special interests are in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sleep Disorders and Sports Psychology. Tom is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
