Overview

Theis believes in creating a safe, non-judgemental environment for his work with clients. He believes it is important for the therapist to be present with the client; whatever they are going through or have gone through and for the client to feel safe, validated and authentically listened to in that space. His approach is to work in a collaborative and gradual manner, moving at a pace that feels safe for the client. Treatment Approaches Theis believes it is important to tailor the therapy used to the particular issues faced by the client, balancing this with the client’s preference. He has an interest in meditation and Buddhist mindfulness strategies to help manage severe chronic pain. He has an interest in complex childhood trauma and has completed training with the Blue Knot Foundation to help inform his clinical practice. Theis utilises: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Motivational Interviewing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Mindfulness based therapy strategies Presenting Issues Theis sees adults, presenting with a wide range of issues, including: Complex childhood trauma Anxiety Depression Drug and alcohol related addiction issues Personality disorders including borderline personality disorder Self-harm behaviours Stress management Psychosis Chronic severe pain Self-esteem issues Work related stressors and/or conflicts Sleep related issues Qualifications and experience: Honours degree in Psychology, University of Wollongong Masters of Psychology (Clinical), University of Sydney Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency Registration Number (PSY0001000477) Theis has extensive experience working in the community with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or mental disorders working for the department of Ageing Disability and Home Care; Family and Community Services. He has worked for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice working with adults with psychosis, personality disorders, self-harming behaviours; anger related issues; complex childhood trauma and addiction related issues.
