Overview

Hello. My name is Allisha. As a registered Psychologist I enjoy working in partnership with individuals and families as they navigate challenging times and find their unique strengths and resilience. Since commencing in 2011, I’ve worked within child and youth mental health, child/adolescent trauma and sexual abuse therapy services, Indigenous community health services and also provided supervision and consultation for those working in therapy services. My focus has been to find creative and hopeful ways of supporting children, adolescents and parents/caregivers who have been impacted by trauma, stress, mental health challenges, developmental and behavioural difficulties. In 2020 I completed a Masters in Therapeutic Arts Practice from the Melbourne Institute of Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy (MIECAT Institute). Some of the issues I provide support for include: Supporting the parenting/caregiving team; Parent-child relationships; Child and young people who have experienced trauma; Social and emotional support for children with developmental differences (including ASD, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, speech and language difficulties); Grief, loss and transitions; Mood and anxiety disorders; Learning protective behaviours for children under 12; Psychological support for children and young people identifying as LGBTIQ+; Providing culturally sensitive therapy space; When words are not enough to support a person to make sense of their experience, I will often offer modes of therapy that rely less on talking. This is particularly important for children who learn and naturally express themselves through creativity, arts and play. Some of the approaches I can offer include: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (Play-based CBT for children); Narrative Therapy; Attachment-focused parenting; Motivational Interviewing; Creative Arts Therapies; Sandplay Therapy and Expressive Therapies; Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IP); Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); LGBTIQ+ and Rainbow families are welcomed. I acknowledge and respect the land, culture and traditions of Indigenous peoples and their knowledges of healing.
