Julia is a Registered Psychologist who commenced working at the READ Clinic in 2019.
Julia completed her Bachelor of Psychology at the University of Newcastle in 2012. She then went on to complete a Masters Degree in Teaching and School Counselling at Sydney University in 2014. Julia has been employed as a School Counsellor within NSW Public Schools since 2014.
Julia prides herself on being a warm, compassionate and authentic child and adolescent Psychologist. Julia predominantly works within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework and uses evidence-based interventions to assist her clients and their families. She believes that establishing and maintaining positive relationships with both the client and their family is paramount. Julia's strengths include her ability to relate to clients and her non-judgmental, empathic approach, with a touch of humour, which provide the foundations for a strong and trusting therapeutic alliance. Julia enjoys using a creative approach when working with children and adolescents, implementing strategies from both art and narrative therapy. Julia also has an interest in the mind-body connection and enquires about different routines that may contribute to mental health presentations early in the therapy process.
Julia is experienced in conducting a variety of psychometric assessments measuring cognitive ability, academic skills, attention and behavioural difficulties as well as adaptive functioning skills. Julia has a particular interest in learning disorders after working in school settings over the years and observing the impacts of learning difficulties on children and adolescents.
