Your child's first session with Jas will be about building trust. With trust, a child is in a better position to heal, and feels safe to share their world. Therefore it is important that the parent comes into the session with patience and understanding that healing is a process. For some children, they may open up right away, while others may take a little more time. Fortunately, Kinesiology is mind AND body modality, and therefore can be tailored to each individual client. We work with more verbally expressive kids and keens by using a 'top-down' approach to healing (talk therapy - intuitive and client led). For kids and teens who are less talkative, we can use the 'bottom-up' approach (body work - nervous system regulation). As they say, all roads (approaches) lead to Rome! Subsequent sessions together may be a space to share what's going on at home and school, to help the child self-regulate, understand themselves and what they're feeling, all while I use my favourite body work techniques to calm and regulate your child's nervous system. Depending on the child, some sessions may involve more gentle discussion and processing stressful events in your child's terms, while other sessions may involve more movements and body work. I help children feel comfortable in my space, ensuring they know that there is nothing 'wrong' with them. I let the children make decisions about how the session plays out, and know that the session is guided by them. My role with kids is to help them feel calm, safe, understood and connected. Please note, this is not couples counselling, but rather an opportunity to be heard in a safe space with a non-judgemental third party to help facilitate the session.
